ONE-ON-ONE LESSONS

This weekly one-on-one private art class designed to help you grow as an artist through painting and/or drawing lessons. The rate per class is for full instruction does NOT including the cost of additional materials. I will provide a list of materials prior to our first session.

LEARNING GROUPS

For groups of 3-5, 5-8, 8-10 students we can create private 'Learning Groups'. Parents can choose from a variety of regular topics or we can custom design individual classes for your groups. The rate does NOT include the cost of additional materials. I will provide a list of materials prior to our first session.

CLASS EXPERIENCE

Materials and subject matter depend on the desired focus of the student. I teach both realistic and creative drawing. The parent and student will choose the style and medium of choice to be tutored. Parent or guardian must be present throughout the time of the lesson.

REALISM

Explore the basics. How to use line, shape, shading and proportion to create accurate and realistic drawings. The structure of this class includes drawing the basic forms from a still life set up using direct lighting to help understand value. You will learn how to see these same basic forms when you draw more complex objects. You will learn about proper proportions and relationships. We will explore line and values, direct lightening and cast shadows, soft and hard edges.

DRAWING
OBSERVATIONAL DRAWING & LANDSCAPES
Observational drawing includes learning about value, how to recreate 3D objects on a 2D surface.

Landscapes include learning (1,2,3 point) perspective as well as creating the illusion of depth. This class covers important techniques for drawing from the natural landscape and taking accurate measurements and perspective. We will progress from line drawing to shading, to full tonal composition. Each class will begin indoors to discuss technique and move outdoors to practice and drawing on-site, weather permitting.

FIGURE DRAWING & PORTRAITURE
Through geometric perspective and anatomical principles we will analyze the figures construction by using old master drawings and photographs designed specifically for life drawing. This class is comprised of critiques, lectures, and demonstrations. Students can work on assignments relevant to tasks. Assigments include self-portrait drawings, hand studies from life, old master copies with a strong emphasis on the conceptual. 

PAINTING
Once the basics of drawing are understood and able to be applied accurately the same techniques can be explored in painting. 

​​ACRYLIC & WATERCOLOR PAINTING
You will learn basic techniques while you paint a wide range of subjects such as still life, landscape, florals animals, etc.

COLOR THEORY
Color theory includes color mixing and the emotions of colors and what they mean. This ties well if you are looking to do more abstract art.

CREATIVE DRAWING

Focuses on freeing up creative energy to enable the student to enjoy creating drawing in their own style. We watch videos of great artists such as Picasso, Van Gogh, etc. to demonstrate creative drawing.
